Imposter!

2 Corinthians 6:4-10 ESV

“…but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.”

This is a lot if scripture. A lot of continuous scripture at that. But it drives home an important point.
We, as Christians, walk a thin line; always between truth and lies, death and life, sin and righteousness.
One of these dichotomies I’d like it disassemble.

“We are treated as impostors, and yet are true…”

Are we actually true?

The world says many times over that Christians are hypocrites. Are you?

I am. I’m pretty bad about a pretty large amount of things.
I have a temper that once you light it up it burns, red hot, for a loooong time.
I am bad about follow through, I’m messy, I am stubborn, I need an answer for EVERYTHING, I complicate simple things, I make complicated too simple–the list continues.

But one thing, that I have painfully learned, is that hiding all these things is the worst kind of deception. The only person you fool is yourself and yet you are actively lying to everyone. Being honest, being true, is the noblest presentation of self.

I am a wretch, but I’m honest about it. I need Jesus’ perfection. I need redemption.  I need forgiveness. If anyone thinks I feel otherwise, he or she is mistaken.

The word, imposter comes from the latin word meaning, “place upon, impose upon, deceive”

Essentially,  when you are an imposter you are pulling the wool over people’s eyes; they aren’t seeing who you really are. They can’t see your heart, which is where GOD usually chooses to work. Your deception for sake of pride is robbing people from seeing GOD performing miracles in your life.

When you are true GOD’S truth is magnified.
